Word from the Chair
A monthly article by the new Chairman. Ian Sturgess
Monday 16th March 2009.
What a great morning to be thinking about getting out for a run, The sun is already warm there’s little wind and we may even be forgiven for thinking spring is upon us, this is when getting those shoes on and out of the door becomes a pleasure rather than an effort, so let’s get out there and run!
We at Wymondham AC. are in a great position to make the most of our running over the forthcoming months. We enjoy the benefits of an enthusiastic well qualified coaching team who offer structured coaching for all our running needs, if you need a bespoke schedule for a special event then they are more than happy to assist. Whether it’s the fast approaching London marathon or a summer 5k series, or just to keep fit and run with friends, WAC is the place.
I have now been in the chair for a month and I have already seen firsthand the great strength the club has in pulling together to deliver success. The’ Wymondham 20 ‘ held on 8th March was a great event for which we have received much positive feedback from runners who took part. Leading up to the race we were looking a bit thin on helpers but you all came good on the day and that was great, a special thanks to all the non members who gave their support.
Things have moved forward since our AGM on a couple matters:
I am delighted to announce that Kim Reader has taken on the position of Vice Chair, Kim already does a huge amount within the club and she brings huge drive and enthusiasm to this important role, thank you Kim.
I am able to confirm that we have entered one team into the Round Norfolk Relay, this event is held in mid September each year and consists of 17 stages covering almost 200 miles around the count y boundary. We have not decided which category to enter a team into at this stage and this will depend on how many runners express an interest in taking part, I will visit this during Monday evening briefing as we move into April.
I must mention that the winter handicap final was held on Monday 9th March, once again a good turnout. I will leave it to Dave Hazleton to reveal all but suffice to say there were some great performances and a new course record. Thanks to David for his commitment in organising this on our behalf, it really does break up those trying winter nights.
That’s it for this time see you in a month or so with another ‘,word from the Chair’.
